How Do You Promote Your Network Marketing Business? Are You Paying Too Much For Mlm Leads?

How to promote your home based business, to quote a 1960’s television program, is the $64,000 question. How do I do it? How hard should I go after my warm market? Should I do cold calls? Should I buy leads? Or should I generate those leads myself? Your decision will greatly effect your attitude, emotions, and success in your business.

Perhaps you have an outgoing personality. You love to talk to people and have no problem asking people literally any question. Lucky you! You are certainly in the minority. Years of network marketing has taught me that the key to success is duplication, but not in the way you may be thinking. You cannot duplicate people. Just because you are outgoing doesn’t mean others in your organization will be able to “duplicate” your personality. Just because you have no problem making telephone calls or speaking to perfect strangers does not mean others feel equally comfortable with that approach technique.

At the end of the day, most network marketers eventually work through their warm market, have a modicum of success and are now at the crossroads of their MLM business. What do I do now? The most common recommendation is to buy leads that are labeled “MLM leads”. They come in all forms… opt in leads, double opt in leads, real time leads , tv leads, etc. The problem for you and me is that these leads are not specific our business and are not specific to you. Here’s what I mean..

Lead generation companies utilize generic advertising to simply find out IF someone is looking to make money. In my experience the information the questionnaires request is hardly accurate. Having purchased and utilized all sorts of leads, understand that it doesn’t matter how much you pay for a lead. Just because you paid $4 per lead does not mean that lead will be more responsive to a lead that cost, perhaps 50 cents. This doesn’t sound fair. But the truth is the truth. In reality, lead generation companies are looking for only certain pieces of information…Namely, name, telephone number, and email address. It does not matter one bit whether the lead really wants to make more money or is simply kicking tires. The more names generated, the more income the lead generation company can make. Let’s understand something here… There ARE some people who have purchased thousands of leads after spending thousands of dollars for those leads and became ultra successful. However, do you feel the majority of people can duplicate this activity? Could you?

Focus on the parts of the business that CAN be duplicated. A business system, if automated, CAN be duplicated. Another benefit from automating your recruiting techniques is that it takes all the emotion out of the business. And, in network marketing, negative emotions are what stop the majority of reps from reaching their success.

Let’s evaluate what I am talking about…Let’s say you buy modestly priced leads from a lead generation company. The cost being $1.50 per lead. This will most likely be an opt in lead, but NOT real time. Double opt in leads and real time leads are much more expensive. You purchase 100 leads for the month at a cost of $150. If you are very lucky, you will get to speak to 20 of those people. Why? As I said before most of these people are tire kickers. Many people put down bogus telephone numbers, or if the numbers work the answering machine answers your call. By the way, don’t hold your breath waiting for a return call!

Out of the twenty calls that go through, five people tell you to STOP calling them because you are the 3rd call they received in two days. TAKE ME OFF YOUR LIST, I AM NOT INTERESTED! Another five people will tell you they don’t remember opting in for information. A while ago I actually had a lead tell me that he had no idea how I got his information because the name listed was his 3 year old son’s name. And he didn’t type in the information. The father told me he doubted that his son had any interest in network marketing especially since his 3 year old didn’t have access to the computer! HUH! Translation….”Yes I filled out the opt in form, but I did not want to own up by putting up my name on the form. I really had no interest but wanted to see where the opt in page would lead me.”

This leaves us with ten out the hundred. Well, not bad. A 10% return is not so bad.. Wait one second here…These people are not your prospects yet. Remember, these leads are GENERIC leads. They don’t even know what you are offering. My experience has shown me that now the next hurdle must be met. What will you say when they ask,” what kind of business is this?” Do you think at least a few of the ten will be turned off when you tell them it is a network marketing company or MLM? You bet it does.

The bottom line is this…buying leads is a difficult way to build your business. The cost per lead conversion is extremely high given the low rate of return. And, emotionally, from personal experience, it takes a lot out of you. Let’s look at an alternative.

What if you had a lead generation system that could not only generate leads that were highly targeted to network marketing but were also branded specifically to you? Would it be a benefit if they showed interest by responding to your online marketing and contacted you? What if this was tied to a system that allowed prospects the opportunity to purchase mlm tools from your system whether they joined your business or not, thereby subsidizing your marketing costs? What if the system also trained you on all aspects of effectively marketing yourself online? And lastly, what if that system automatically followed up with your prospects on a repeating schedule by email, to give them ongoing opportunities to join you or purchase from you using highly professional methods?

Well, this system exists, and is here for you, if you want it. Network marketing in the 21st century, at its best.
