Work At Home For A More Comfortable Life

I want to paint a picture for you. Imagine waking up when you are ready. That’s it. Wake up with no alarm clock, and without the need to go somewhere right away. How many times during the work week do you get to do that? For most of us the average day works out like this: Wake up far too early and turn off the blaring alarm clock. Then rush around getting ready to go to work. Drive to work, work all day long, and then drive home. Repeat for forty years then retire.
That’s a pretty bleak picture, isn’t it? I don’t find it particularly appealing, so I’m going to paint another quick picture for you. Imagine waking up without an alarm clock, when your body is fully rested. Then you have a relaxing breakfast with coffee or tea. There is no rush, no pressing need to commute to an office somewhere so you can make the next house payment. You just wake up when you are ready, move at your own pace, and go about your day as you see fit.
Which picture looks better to you? I prefer the second one, myself, and it’s what I do now. In case you are wondering what I do for money to pay the bills, I will just say that I work very hard. But I do so from the comfort of my own home, at my own pace, and in a manner which is most productive for me.
If you don’t fit into this bleak work world that our society has thrust upon us as normal, then you might want to give some serious thought about working from home. You might run your own home-based business, or you might find a nice telecommuting job, allowing you to work in your pajamas if you don’t want to get dressed right away. Regardless of what you might do, I can tell you that working from home creates less stress, and can even relieve some of the stress of the average work day.
Even if you’re a die-hard people person, this situation can still work for you. Working at home doesn’t mean staying cooped up in your house all day long. It basically means that your home becomes your office, and that you are free of all the trappings of a regular office. You can work without brushing your teeth, and you can take a nap if you start feeling groggy and unproductive. If you, as a strong people person, start to feel fidgety, get out of “the office” and drum up some business. Do some sales prospecting, or just head to your local coffee shop for some conversation and networking.
To me, working from home means I’ve made it. It means that I have reached a level that some only dream about, but don’t push that dream to realization. I see it as the ultimate success — as being the master of my workday and my career.
If you want to work at home, go for it. If you think you need to sit in a cubicle all day long to be successful, then maybe you just need to sit down and think about it. If, after some deep thought, you find that your ideal career is from a box in a row of boxes, then make it the best you can. But if that kind of life is not for you, then you need to keep looking until you find what you need. Working at home is a great thing. If you can do it, go for it.
